If you want to add a new data model, first log in to the tool.

  • While logged in and with access rights of a data modeler or an administrator, you can see the button Add new data model in the upper right corner.
  • Click the button and the tool creates a new page (modal), where you can fill in the information for the new data model.
  • When you have filled in all the information, click the Add model button. The tool creates a new data model and adds the information related to it. You can cancel the creation of a new data model by clicking the Cancel -button.

The information is mandatory unless they are marked as optional. More specific information can be found from the table below.

Field

Description

Data Model type

Choose if you are adding a new application profile or a data vocabulary. More information about the differences between the two types can be found from Quick Guide to Semantic Modelling.

Note! The chosen data model type cannot be changed later.

Languages of the data model

Languages, which are used for describing the information in the data model

  • New languages can be added later, and the number of languages is not restricted.
  • If you want to use the data model internationally, it is advised to use English as the base language in the data model.


Name of the data model

The field is only shown after the languages for the information content has been chosen. Every language has its own name -field.

The name, that is shown in the lists and the search results.

  • Give a simple name that corresponds to the content and with which the users can easily find the data model.
  • For example, “The Training Arranged at the Workplace” or “The Search Interface of the Population Information System”.


Description (optional)

The field is only shown after the languages for the information content has been chosen. Every language has its own name -field.

Give a short verbal description of the content of the data model and what is its intended use.

  • Description will be shown in the data model list on the front page and in the search results.
  • If you want to give more information about the data model, the information is given in the Documentation-page.

Prefix

(identifier)

A string of characters that is used for identifying the data model in the Data Vocabularies Tool. Note! The prefix cannot be changed later!

  • The prefix must start with a small letter and to have 2-32 characters. Allowed characters are a-z, 0-9,”_” and “-“ (underscore and hyphen). For example, xyz123.
  • The prefix is shown in the IRI-address of the data model and its resources (classes, attributes and associations).

IRI preview

A function to visualise how the chosen prefix is shown as a part of an IRI-address. For example: https://iri.suomi.fi/model/xyz123/.


 

Information domains

Information of which information domain or domains the data model belongs to.

  • Information domain describes the information domains of the data models content.
  • Adding an information domain helps to find a right model and the filtering of the search results based on the content.

Contributors

Information of the contributor (organisation), which has created the data model and is responsible for maintaining its content.

  • The list only includes the organisations, that have given the user editing rights.

Feedback (optional)

The contact information for the contributor organisation by which the users can send feedback and questions regarding to the information content etc.

  • For example, email address to the responsible organisation.
  • Note! The field is public, so it is not permitted to use a personal email address. The email address should be a common feedback address used by the organisation.


If you want to save the data model you created, click Add model button. If you want to discard the model, click Cancel button.
